was created in 1994 with the leadership of Harvard Medical School to respond to requests for the School's involvement in international health care initiatives, as a nonprofit, subsidiary corporation of Harvard
University. The Dean of HMS is the chairman of the board of HMI.
This historic alliance between SRU was signed by the late Shri N.P.V. Ramaswamy Udayar, Founder Chancellor of Sri Ramachandra University and Dr. Robert Crone, CEO of Harvard Medical International, in 1997. Frequent scholarly exchanges, academic development programs, faculty development programs and transfer of medical resources have been the highlights of this alliance. Completion of five years of this alliance was marked by the visit of Dr. Joseph Boyd Martin, Dean of Harvard Medical School in 2003, who gave the commencement address to the graduates during the convocation. The current focus of the alliance is curriculum development, creation of continuing education programs, and transfer of expertise in specialized areas of health care and health systems development.
