Course Objectives :

 

At the end of the course the student will be able to

  1. Understand the foundations of law as it applies to medicine and medical ethics
  2. Understand the foundations of the doctor patient relationship
  3. Understand the basics of clinical reasoning and the underpinnings of basic and clinical research
  4. Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues
  5. Understand health systems
  6. Understand the strengths and limitations of alternative systems of medicine

 

Description of course :

This is an introductory program designed to enhance the overall professional developmental development of the medical student. Through a series of lectures and didactic sessions that are complemented the same afternoon by small group sessions/tutorial and demonstrations, the students will be able to acquire the attitudes and skills necessary for effective functioning of a physician – which have traditionally been only acquired as part of a hidden curriculum. In addition the course provides for a mentoring process in which a small group of students (approximately 6-8) will be in contact with the same facilitator for close to two years of the most crucial period of their education.

 

Intended for :

Students of VI, VII, VIII and IX semesters

 

Duration of course :

30 weeks / 90 hours - 30 hours of didactic and 60 hours of applied practical.
