The
Cardiac Care Centre of the Sri Ramachandra Medical College
and Institute has a simple mission. Always provide the best
in heart care. To achieve this, the centre brings together
leading cardiac care specialists, advanced technology, world-class
infrastructure, and a human touch that heals.
Today, the Centre is among the few establishments
in India to offer heart care to adults and children. In addition
to providing quality heart care, the centre has training,
research, and outreach programmes that comprehensively address
today's challenges and prepare us for emerging challenges
in heart care.
The heart of the matter
A number of factors drive the heart care needs of today's
Indian society. Chief among them are the increase in life
expectancy to 64 years, low literacy levels, changes in lifestyle,
the increased incidence in Diabetes Mellitus to 10.4% and
4.6% of urban and rural population respectively and environmental
pollution.
As a result, more and more hearts are detected with congenital
heart diseases and systematic hypertension. Further, the growing
incidence of vascular diseases in India results in stroke,
Myocardial Infarction (MI) and renal failure
CCC-At the forefront of the heart
care
In response to such problems of the heart, the CCC of SRMC
provides world-class care to all – from newborn babies to
senior citizens. Our success is the natural outcome of our
ability to bring together leading medical professionals, advanced
infrastructure and comprehensive clinical services.
The Infrastructure:
Backing the team is infrastructure that is on par with the
latest – be it the outpatient consultation suits, the inpatient
services, the cardio thoracic theatres, the intensive cardiac
care units or the cardiac rehabilitation units.
Shaping the future
At the same time, we also prepare for the emerging
challenges in heart care by focussing on human resource development,
clinical and basic research and public awareness creation.
Human
Resource Development (HRD):
The HRD initiatives of the CCC produce highly qualified
medical, paramedical and nursing staff. The leading programmes
are the Allied Health Science course and the guidance of candidates
pursuing post graduation (MD), PhD and post-doctoral qualification
in cardiology (DM).
Clinical and Basic Research:
From inception, research has been a strong thrust area. Our
record in basic and clinical research reflects this concern.
We have conducted research on critical issues at all levels
– local, regional, national and international. At any moment,
we have a number of research projects under way.
Creating awareness among the public
We take the message of quality heart care to the people
through our multi-faceted outreach initiatives. The initiatives
include the publication of weekly articles in the vernacular
press, programmes on television and radio, promotion of telemedicine
initiatives, and the conduct of regular camps – on campus
and at other locations.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Our infrastructure reflects our mission of providing
the best in heart care. While our outpatient and inpatient
services cater to a huge number of patients, the cardio thoracic
theatres are equipped with state of the art technology to
perform highly complicated surgical procedures. For acutely
ill patients, the intensive cardiac care units (ICCUs) offer
total care. Finally, the cardiac rehabilitation units bring
together a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, nutrition
experts, physiotherapists and psychologists to ensure that
the patient recovers as much as possible in short a time period
as possible.
