The Pulmonology department of Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute was started in 1986, as a division of general medicine department, involved in the management of various respiratory ailments like Tuberculosis, Bronchial Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, Bronchogenic Carcinoma, etc.

Goals and objectives of the clinical service

  2. PG training in clinical respiratory medicine, PFT and FOB (Medical)
  3. UG training in clinical respiratory medicine
  4. Clinical Research
  5. Training Allied Health Science students in Respiratory Care Technology

Clinical services

Out patient service

The Out Patient Department (OPD) works seven days a week between 8.00am to 12.30pm. Number of patients attending Chest OPD 65-75 per day (15% New Cases) Patients from various specialties are referred for expert opinion and management.

In Patient Service

Total bed available in chest ward is 45 (both Male and Female). Chest ward is well ventilated and is fully equipped to manage patients who are critically ill. It has Central Oxygen Supply and Central Vacuum Suction facilities and Jet Nebulisers. A procedure room, where procedures like Pleural Aspiration, Pleural Biopsy, Inter Costal Tube Insertion and Fine Needle Aspiration are done in the chest ward. Very critically ill patients are managed at the Intensive Care Unit.

Patient are also admitted in special wards and managed.
