TEMPLE TOWN CAMP
- GURUVAYUR |
Sri Ramachandra
Medical Center conducted a two-day multi-specialty medical camp
in the temple town of Guruvayur on Saturday and Sunday, April
17th and 18th 2004. The camp was the first of a philanthropic
exercise that took high quality care to residents and pilgrims
of temple towns. Temple towns while bringing in pilgrims of
various age groups and socio economic denominations traditionally
have a large number of elderly, who may otherwise not have access
to specialty care.
Unlike conventional "screening camps" that usually feature junior
doctors with no facility for further investigation, top consultants
were available in over 10 specialties including cardiology,
dentistry, dermatology, diabetes and endocrinology, ENT, gynecology,
general medicine, neurology, nephrology, orthopedics, ophthalmology,
surgery and urology. Blood tests, ultrasound, ECG, and Echocardiogram
were also done free of cost. A limited number of free medicines
were also provided to patients.
The camp was held at the Guruvayur Devaswom English Medium School.
Mr. Balakrishnan, Minister for Electricity, Government of Kerala
inaugurated the camp. Mr. Appukuttan Nambiyar, Chairman, Guruvayur
Devaswom Board was the Guest of Honor and the Chancellor of
Sri Ramachandra Deemed University, Mr.V.R. Venkataachalam presided
over the camp. The free medical camp was the first in a series
of year long events that are being conducted by the deemed university
to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its founding and the
10th anniversary of it being conferred the deemed university
