SRINGERI CAMP

Sri Ramachandra Medical Center (Sri Ramachandra University) conducted a two day multi-specialty free medical camp in the temple town of Sringeri on Saturday and Sunday September 4th and 5th 2004. The camp was the second of a philanthropic exercise that will take high quality care to residents and visitors of renowned places of pilgrimage. Temple towns while bringing in pilgrims of various age groups and socio economic denominations traditionally have a large number of elderly who may otherwise not have access to specialty care. The first Temple Town camp was held at Guruvayur on April 17th and 18th 2004, where over 500 patients were given expert consultation services by 15 senior consultants of various specialities. In both the camps basic investigations including routine blood tests, ECG, ECHO and ultrasound were done for the patients and free medications were distributed to some extent to all the patients.

The following consultants provided expert consultation services at the Sharada Dhanvantari Charitable Hospital :

Cardiology -   Dr. J.S.N. Murthy
Dermatology -   Dr. S. Anandan
Endocrinology & Diabetes -   Dr. Krishna Seshadri
ENT -   Dr. Senthil Kannan
Gastroenterology -   Dr. Shanthi Vijayaraghavan
Obstetrics & Gynaecology -   Dr. Usha Vishwanath
Pediatrics -   Dr. Latha Ravichandran

The camp was inaugurated on the 4th of September 2004 at Gurunivas, Narasimhavana by His Holiness Sri Sri Bharathi Tirtha Maha Swamingal, the 36th pontiff of the Sri Dhakshinamnaya Sharada Peetam. The first patient record was received by Mrs. Radha Venkataachalam, Chief Executive Director from His Holiness at 8.45 am. The camp started at 9 am with the blessings of His Holiness. His Holiness conveyed his wish that Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre must have a continued association with the Sharada Dhanvantari Charitable Hospital in providing health care to the patients and pilgrims of Sringeri. The Chief Executive Director of Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre Mrs. Radha Venkataachalam said that SRMC will explore the options of creating a telemedicine link up that will give patients at Sringeri instant access to specialist consultation.

Over 600 patients from Sringeri and surrounding villages benefited from the camp. The local Inner Wheel, Rotary Club and Lions Club Members took active part in the arrangements and registration.

On the evening of 4th Dr. J.S.N. Murthy and Dr. S. Anandan delivered lectures on “Approach to chest pain” and “Common dermatological problems in clinical practice” respectively in a meeting arranged by the IMA at the hospital premises.

His Holiness blessed the team in the evening of the 5th September and conveyed his satisfaction at the smooth conduct of the camp and blessed the participants.
