PRESS RELEASE CADAVER ORGAN TRANSPLANT AT SRI RAMACHANDRA MEDICAL CENTRE
Chennai, Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre today successfully carried out a cadaver kidney transplant from a brain dead patient. Mr.G.Natarajan, 69, an agriculturist from Tiruvannamalai who was involved in a scooter-tractor collision on the 6th of this month was brought to SRMC in an unconscious condition with head injury on the 7th after initial treatment at a local hospital. On Wednesday the 9th, he was declared brain dead by duly authorized doctors of SRMC. Authorities of Tamilnadu Government were informed. Mr.Thiruvengadam son of Mr.Natarajan a Pharmacist working in the gulf who had rushed to Chennai on hearing of the accident and other close relatives of the patient, overcoming their grief volunteered to donate the organs of the brain-dead patient. After informing the authorities of the Tamilnadu Government, the organs were harvested by Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre today. One kidney was transplanted on a wait listed patient Mrs.T.Bhavani, 45, wife of Mr.Thiruppur Anthagan, security personnel of Chennai Port Trust under orders of transfer to the Kashmir valley. Mrs.Bhavani is now progressing well after the transplant surgery. The other kidney was shared with the Government General Hospital Chennai and the liver with Apollo Hospital, Chennai. Cornea of the donor was banked with SRMC eye bank. SRMC has so far done 71 cadaver kidney, 418 live donor kidney, four heart and two liver transplants. .........................................................
