Chennai, State Bank of India, today donated a van costing Rs.9,50,000 to Vidya Sudha, a unit of Sri Ramachandra University which is a learning centre for children with special needs. The van will be used to ferry parents and children affected by autism, microcephaly, attention deficiency hyperactive disorder, mental retardation, down syndrome, development disorder etc, to Vidya Sudha in the university campus at Porur from different parts of Chennai. Already three vans are ferrying such people between SRMC and Vadapalani, Guindy and Poondamallee. Mr.V.G.Kannan, General Manager, SBI, Chennai Circle handed over the van to the special children here today in the presence of Chancellor Mr.V.R.Venkataachalam, Vice Chancellor Dr.S.Rangaswami and Project Officer of Vidya Sudha Mrs. J. Shalini. The day also coincided with the fifth annual sports meet for these special children and their parents. Speaking on the occasion Mr.Kannan said SBI takes pride in associating itself with such a noble cause. Vidha Sudha is a uniquely designed day care centre where parents participate in all the sessions with their children so that they can continue to mentor them at home. The children besides getting professional medical attention with respect to their disability also do schooling which will help some of them to join regular schools later. .........................................................
