Chennai,
8th January 2010

Baby Niranjan (name changed) 2 months old and weighting 4+ Kg, was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC) with breathing difficulty by the Paediatric specialist. On investigation the chest scan revealed a swelling between the windpipe and the food pipe, which was pressing on the airway and causing distress.

The child operated by a team of Paediatric surgeons and anestheists. Instaed of opening the chest, the surgery was completed though thoracoscopy (3 millimeter incision) and the swelling was removed.

The child is doing well after the surgery and was started on feeds in less than 12 hours. The procedure resulted in virtually no scars or pain in a 2 months old child with good results – a rare feat achieved through a team work of paediatric surgeons, paediatricians, anesthetists and intensivists at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre.
