"18 MONTHS OF BASIC SCIENCES EDUCATION MUST FOR MBBS"- DR. MEER MUSTAFA HUSSAIN

The Vice Chancellor of the Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University, DrJC.Meer Mustafa Hussain has reiterated his plea to the Medical Council of India, for restoration of 18 months of education in basic sciences like anatomy, physiology and bio-chemistry in the MBBS course. Inaugurating the annual conference of the Association of Anatomists, Tamilnadu at Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, this morning, he said though sophisticated aids and computer assisted facilities are now available a strong foundation in basic sciences is necessary for an effective clinical practice.

Delivering the key note address at the conference, Prof.S.Rangasamy, Vice Chancellor, Sri Ramachandra University said the integrated curriculum introduced at the university has helped understand better the dynamics of the human body. Any study of anatomy he said should lead us to understand the overall scheme of life itself

Speaking on the occasion, the President of the association Dr.K.R.Srinivasan said more voluntary donation of cadavers should be encouraged to enable medical students to have a practical knowledge of anatomy.

At the function Dr. A. Krishnamurti, Professor of Anatomy, Rajah Muthiah Medical College, Ajmamalai University and founder member of the Association was given the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his extraordinary contribution to Anatomy.

Prof.K.V.Somasundram, Dean of Faculties, Dr.S.Melani Rajendran, Organising Secretary of the conference and HOD, Anatomy, SRU, and Dr.V.Rajaram, Secretary, of the Association participated in the meeting.
