PRESS RELEASE ZIMMER INSTITUTE'S CENTRE AT Chennai, 16th October 2007, Sri Ramachandra University today became the first satellite centre in South Asia of Zimmer Institute of the United States for training orthopaedic surgeons in the latest procedures for hip and knee surgeries. A world class cadaver lab was also inaugurated at SRU on the occasion by Dr.John Cresser Brown, Director of Zimmer Institute. He said the first course in India will fulfill Zimmer's aim in bringing the latest to orthopaedic surgeons all over the world. Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Clarence Ngni, Associate Director of Zimmer Institute said the SRU satellite centre is the fifth in Asia after Korea, China, Singapore and Thailand. During the three day course the participating surgeons will get to see three procedures performed by world renowned orthopaedic surgeons and perform one procedure themselves. The aim of Zimmer Institute is to teach surgeons all over the world new skills that are less invasive and therefore less traumatic for the patients. Earlier in his welcome address, Prof SSK Marthandam, Chairman and Director, Orthopaedic, SRU, said that 25 surgeons from all over India are participating in the sophisticated international level workshop which will teach them to do resurfacing hip arthroplasty, minimally invasive total knee arthroplasty and periarticular plate osteosynthesis. ………………………………..
