PG STUDY IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE & TRAUMA CARE LIKELY

The National Board of Examinations is considering a proposal to introduce post graduate studies in Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care to meet the growing number of accidents and other emergencies said its President, Prof.A.Rajasekaran, here today. He was addressing EMCON the 9 National Conference on Emergency Medicine at Sri Ramachandra University. Pointing out that a highest percent of 34 per one latch vehicles are involved in accidents in India, he said, the present post doctoral studies in Emergency Medicine is not providing enough specialists. The National Board would take a decision shortly he said. He complemented SRTJ for introducing M.D in Emergency Medicine and Trauma Care.
Dr.Qautam Bodiwala, President, International Federation of Emergency Medicine announced that the world body has admitted the Indian Society for Emergency Medicine as its member.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor Prof.S.Rangaswami said it is a very demanding specialty and that is why SRU has introduced a masters programme in this subject.
Prof.K.V.Somasundaram, Dean of Faculties said, the world over there are problems in recognizing emergency medicine and trauma care as an independent specialty but the situation is slowly changing.
Prof.T.V.Ramakrishnan, President of the Indian Society was hopeful that Asian Congress of Emergency Medicine will be held at SRU in the near future.
The Chancellor, Mr.V.R.Venkataachalam honoured the distinguished guests and doctors who attended the conference as eminent speakers.
