‘HORIZONS IN DENTISTRY’ MEET AT SRI RAMACHANDRA UNIVERSITY

The vast and ever expanding horizon of opportunities in dentistry was unveiled to young dental interns at the two day all India comprehensive interdisciplinary programme on career enhancement organized by Sri Ramachandra Dental College at Sri Ramachandra University here today. Addressing over 500 participants from various dental colleges across the country, Mr.M.M.Murugappan, Chairman, Corborundum Universal said attitude, which employers look for, ahead of skills, while recruiting people, is key to success even for independent professionals like dentists. With personal vision and commitment young dentists can utilize the ever expanding opportunities thrown up by dental science in providing community dentistry he said.
Prof.T.K.Parthasarathy, Vice Chancellor, SRU in his key note address said two or three years of clinical practice before taking up MDS will be very useful in mastering dentistry. Laying stress on skills he said, 80 percent of all dental problems can be treated by a BDS, which should give them a lot of confidence.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof S. P. Thyagarajan, Director, Central Research Facility, SRU, said patient expectations in oral healthcare are as important as emerging new techniques like the use of lasers in gum surgery. They should become ‘Civic Dentists’ by reaching the benefits to the people through community dentistry, he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, Prof R.Suresh, Principal, Sri Ramachandra Dental College said rapid advancement in dental treatments and the questions of ethics, besides entrepreneurial challenges will be discussed at the two day meet till tomorrow.
