I.T. & SIMULATION CAN REVOLUTIONISE MEDICAL EDUCATION

The use of technology like, computers, IT, web based information and simulation can revolutionise medical education in the future, said Prof Thomas H.Aretz, Vice President for Education, Partners Harvard Medical International, while delivering a lecture at Sri Ramachandra University here today. He was delivering a special lecture in connection with the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Medical Council of India.

Citing examples of such use of innovative practice in medical institutions in the United States he said technology can provide greater efficiency, create better effectiveness, expand capabilities and reach and serve new markets. The emphasis will shift from teacher centered education to student centered one. Prof Aretz however said that a fair amount of research needs to be done to study the improvements that can be brought about in medical education.

Speaking on the occasion Dr.Ved Prakash Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur and Executive Member, MCI said it is with a view to bring about progressive changes in medical education that the Council has given 27 themes to various medical institutions to deliberate, brainstorm and churn out the possibilities so that we can evolve something concrete for the future.

The Chancellor of Sri Ramachandra University, Thiru.V.R.Venkataachalam honoured the distinguished speakers. The Pro Chancellor Prof T.K.Parthasarathy, Vice Chancellor Prof S.Rangaswami, Prof.K.V.Somasundram, Dean of Faculties and others participated in the function.
