The Expert Group would visit the academic facilities and research infrastructure available at both the universities, review 37 research proposals submitted by these universities for funding support and discuss with the faculty investigators to finalise the methodology of conduction of the selected proposals. The major areas of research proposals developed by the two universities are hearing protection devices forjawans, health impacts of ozone and particulate matter, biological dosimetry; physiological studies on meditation, neuropsychological rehabilitation, development of herbal chewable tablets with antioxidant and anti-anxiety properties, nano bio ceramics and silk nanolibre for medical applications, wearable electronics for health monitoring, bio-fuel production and translational research for biodefense. The expert group will recommend future course of bringing about stronger collaborating centres of ORDO with SRU and AU. It will also explore the possibility of Sri Ramachandra University offering M.D.Sports Medicine Course in collaboration with Defense Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences (DIPAS), DRDO. Sri Rainachandra University with its Research Vision to evolve as a ‘Centre of Excellence in Translational Medicine and Biomedical Nanotechnology” has strengthened its research infrastructure to the international level by establishing the Central Research Facility, Central Animal Research Facility, Contract Clinical Trial Division and Epidemiology Research Division at the cost of Rs.30 crores. To mutually share its medical and basic science expertise with technology institutions and industries, it has signed MOUs during the last one year with Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, Anna University, Chennai, Sathyabama University and SSN Engineering College. MOUs are underway with National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore, National Institute of Epidemiology (NW), Chennai, Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Delhi, Bristol Myers Squibb Ltd., USA and Nicholas Piramal Ltd., Mumbai. In addition to several ongoing sponsored research projects and clinical trials through international and national thuding agencies, Sri Ramachandra University has secured additionally 21 research projects during 2007 with grants-in-aid of Rs.10.72 crores from DST, DBT, ICMR, DAE, Etc. As a part of its continuous endeavour to strive for research excellence, SRU, both individually and jointly , with Anna University (AU) has interacted with DRDO to develop a strong collaboration with universities. .………………………………..
