COUNSELING MARKS PSORIASIS DAY AT SRU

The World Psoriasis day was observed at Sri Ramachandra University today with counselling and interactive sessions for patients. Speaking on the occasion, Mrs.Padma Venkataraman, Vice President Women’s India Association said as stress causes psoriasis proper counselling plays a very important role in treating and redeeming the self confidence in patients. Media can play a very positive role in removing the stigma suffered by patients by educating and spreading awareness she said.
Prof. S. Rangaswami, Vice Chancellor, said research studies have established that the skin shows changes in emotions even quicker than the brain and has intense communication with the interior of the body.
Prof K.V.Sornasundaram, Dean of Faculties said psoriasis requires comprehensive treatment involving departments of dermatology and clinical psychology.
Prof S. Anandan Head of the Department of Dermatology said acute stress causes psoriasis and nearly 12 million people are suffering from this disease in the world. Extensive counselling and subsidized treatment has been organized to mark the world psoriasis day at Sri Ramachandra University.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.Udaya Kumar of Win Medicare, said counselling has definite and positive impact on psoriasis patients. Several people, he said, have been saved from suicidal tendencies and acute depression with proper counselling. A hotline and web site in English and Tamil for psoriasis patients are being launched in three months in association with Sri Ramachandra University
