Cleft & Craniofacial Centre, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & RI (DU) includes is a multi-specialty center providing the state of art care at affordable cost. This multi-specialty center includes Plastic Surgeons, Pediatrician, Nutritionist, Pedodontist, Orthodontist, Speech Pathologist, ENT Surgeon, Neurosurgeon, Prosthodontist, Nurse Coordinator and Social Worker. We care for these children by providing not only necessary moral support but also help them to cope up with social and emotional stress.

Cleft and Craniofacial Center, Sri Ramachandra Medical college & Research Institute, Chennai is providing free services for Cleft Children since 2001. We have completed 5000 Free Cleft Surgeries on 19th June 2007. To expand the services for the cleft children, the Smile Train will also supporting the Orthoganthic Surgeries and Distraction procedures shown in pictures. These major and complex surgeries to correct the facial bone deformities which cost Rs. 40-80,000 will be provided free of cost in Dept of Plastic Surgery at Sri Ramachandra Medical Center.

	Distraction Osteogenesis is the process of “stretching” and “lengthening” of facial bones. This technique is very useful in correcting small and deformed facial bone in gradually to allow the facial soft tissue coverage to stretch as slow pace. The process of gradual stretching of facial bone last for 2-3weeks, which is done by special gadgets.

Orthognathic surgery corrects the bone facial bone deformities in one surgery where are bones are fractured and fixed in new position.

Even though Smile Train sponsored surgeries and related treatments are totally free, many poor families are still unable – and therefore unwilling - to bring their cleft affected children to the hospital. The two biggest deterrents are the cost of travel and stay for the family and the loss of earnings for the breadwinner. The Smile Train Grant program provide approximately Rs. 1000-2000 For each patient operated in the Smile Train center for the cost and loss of daily wages for the breadwinner. Therefore, the Smile Train reduces the burden of travel and other expenditure for the patients.

	Craniofacial Surgeries: The World Craniofacial Foundation Team from Dallas, USA will be visiting Sri Ramachandra Medical college & Research Institute to enter in to agreement to provide support the complex craniofacial surgery which involves not only facial bones but also of skull
