The department of Surgical Gastroenterology is functioning in this hospital for more than twelve years and it was headed by eminent professors in its development. The department provides comprehensive care for those patients who suffer from complex gastrointestinal surgical problems. Majority of the patients are referred from other departments of the institution. We do get referrals from other institution also.
Our clinical work comprises of managing complex problems in the following areas.
- Hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery
- Upper GI surgery
- Colorectal surgery.
The major surgeries performed are as follows.
- Pancreatoduodenectomy
- Transhiatal Oesophagectomy
- Total gastrectomy
- Esophagogastrectomy
- Esophago-coloplasty for corrosive stricture
- Sphincter saving procedures for Rectal cancer
- Ileal Pouch anal procedures
- Surgeries for Chronic Pancreatitis
- Devascularization procedure for portal hypertension, Hepaticojejunostomy for biliary stricture
- Liver Resections.
- Apart from these all-routine Gastrointestinal surgeries are also done.
- Basic and advanced Laparoscopic surgeries are done.
- Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies are done routinely.
M.Ch Surgical Gastroenterology course was started in the year 2004 and the first batch of two postgraduates joined the course. At present three batches (6 postgraduates) are undergoing training.
