Colleague:
It gives us great pleasure to invite you to this annual educational event. Sri Ramachandra University in association with Harvard Medical International has worked in creating theamatic and focused workshops for Medical College faculty across the country for the past five years. This year as we step into the second decade of our alliance we also celebrate Platinum Jubilee of Medical Council of India. We propose to bring to you a comprehensive FOUR day workshop focusing on all the important aspects of medical education including competencies, teachinglearning skill strategies, assessment and evaluation and Quality Improvement.
The Course Director will be Prof. Thomas Aretz, Vice President for Education at Harvard Medical International. Prof. Connie Bowe will be joining Prof. Thomas Aretz in the conduct of the workshop. We expect the four days of workshop to be intensive with journal clubs, group exercises, interactive sessions and case method teaching. An added attraction is the MCI Platinum Jubilee commemorative dinner program. We expect that this will be a good meeting ground for all of us to creae avenues of networking, collaboration and partnership. I look forward to meeting you at Sri Ramachandra University on June 23rd , 2008.

The curriculum is designed to assist participants in developing newer strategies in planning curriculum, create goals and objectives, teachinglearning skill strategies, assessment and evaluation and quality improvement. |

Who should participate? |
| |
The program is designed for all teachers in medical education, members of the medical education units, institutional leaders involved in designing and modifying medical curriculum. The participant may be Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors who are directly involved in teaching and assessing medical students. |

How do I register for the course? |
| |
Please complete the form attached and mail to: The Program Leader, Harvard Ramachandra Faculty Development Workshop, Office of the Dean of Faculties, Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, Chennai, 600116.
The last date for receipt of completed applications is May 25, 2008.
Attendance is limited to 40 registrants. Information of admission will be intimated by June 01, 2008.
There will be NO SPOT registrations. |

What is the course fee? |
| |
The course fee for 4 days of work shop is Rs.3,000/. This includes tuition, course materials and lunch. The MCI Platinum Jubilee Dinner is complementary. Please make all payments only by Demand Drafts payable to Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute – Harvard Account. Requests for cancellation must be made before June 1st 2008. All refund requests will incur an administrative fee of Rs.1000/. |

The program is subsidized by the Sri Ramachandra Education and Health Trust. |

All participants will be expected to be familiar with learning materials that will be sent ahead of time. |

Is Accommodation available? |
| |
A limited number of subsidized rooms are available at the SRMC Annexe Guest House on a first come first serve basis. A/C rooms cost Rs.650/ per night and the non A/C rooms cost Rs. 300/ per night. These rooms may be taken on a twinsharing basis. Payment for accommodation may be made at the guesthouse itself. For details contact 044-25011369. |

Prof. Thomas H Aretz is the Vice President for Education at Harvard Medical International. He completed his medical education at Harvard Medical School and obtained an American Board certificate in Anatomy and Clinical Pathology. He also completed a research and clinical fellowship in cardio-vascular pathology. He is
currently Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. He is also a founding member of the academy at HMS and Course Director at HMS. Dr. Aretz’s expertise is in the design and implementation of academic education programs involving, strategic planning, curriculum development and implementation, and faculty development. |

Prof. Connie Bow has served as a Senior Consultant for Harvard Medical International for over 8 years. She is Professor (Emeritus) in Clinical Neurology at the University of California-Davis School of Medicine and she is also a College Director at UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Bowe has extensive expertise in medical curriculum reform, clerkship design, integration of clinical and basic science curricula, teaching methods, faculty development and institutional change.
Dr. Bowe currently serves as a fellow and faculty member for the Harvard-Macy Institute at Harvard Medical School.The Institute offers professional development programs for physician-educators and leaders of reform in medical education worldwide. She also serves as chair member for curriculum reform at UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Bowe
received her MD degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, and completed her post-doctoral training in neurology and pediatrics at Stanford University Hospital in California. She is board-certified in pediatrics and neurology with special qualifications in child neurology.
Dr. Bowe has programmatic experience in the following countries: Chile, India, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Iraq, Kuwait, and Lebanon. |
